This (relatively) small room can carry a big message about home design. It can be intimate and inviting, formal or a touch frivolous. Your bathroom design can say a great deal about your personality and the overall effect you're striving to achieve in your home. And the materials you select will play a major role in establishing the room's tone

Hollywood Bath

Carol Maryott, ASID, created an old-world Tuscan look for a client's Hollywood bath.

"The stone used in the shower is a random natural color with accents of charcoal," Maryott said. "The decorative border is a basket weave pattern with a Tuscan border liner. The shower floor is a matching octagonal pattern, bringing the Old World look to the new walk-in shower. The bench top is honed crema marfil marble. New satin nickel shower fixtures were installed with thermostatic valves for temperature control as well as an additional hand-held shower for ease and convenience."

Maryott used Kashmir/Gold granite for the surface of each of two vanities in this bathroom, giving one a more masculine feel than the other. "The granite backsplashes are seven inches high with a bevel edge," Maryott said. "A satin nickel single-lever faucet was chosen for its elegance and simplicity."
