Designers Reveal Funniest Moments

Several designers have compiled a list of some of their funniest experiences when working on a project.

Carol Maryott, Maryott Custom Interiors - "Years ago, I was doing a design remodel project inside the Loop in a three-story townhouse for a wonderful couple, Tom and Patty who were the prideful owners of a sweet and playful cat."

"Although I have forgotten kitty's real name, I will refer to her as Miss Whiskers. Since Tom and Patty both worked full time, I had a key to the home and was responsible for letting workers in and out and more importantly, keeping Miss Whiskers from leaving the house."

"One day while going about my usual routine of checking work details, I could not find Miss Whiskers."

"I spent a good hour going into every crook and cranny of the home - including opening kitchen cabinet doors and checking all closets. I was fairly certain that she had not run out when we were coming in and out, but panic was beginning to set in."

"Suddenly all the work-people in the house and I were outside combing the neighborhood looking frantically for Miss Whiskers, asking neighbors and anyone we ran into if they had seen her."

"No sign of her. No meow. Nothing. I had visions of my clients' reactions when I informed them that I had lost their beloved pet."

"Eventually I did call Patty, who in turn called Tom to come home and help with the search. After about 20 to 30 very strained minutes, Tom came down from the third floor to announce that he had found Miss Whiskers but could not coax her out of her hiding place."

"Apparently, Miss Whiskers had for some time been clawing away at the bottom of the master bed box spring liner and had crawled inside and now could not get out of the box spring."

"We all watched with amazement while the men had to take the mattress and box spring off, destroying the liner in the process to free Miss Whiskers. She had managed to wedge herself between slats, coils and fabric."

"Needless to say that in spite of the torn-up box spring, we were all relieved to see this precious pet safe and sound, and measures were taken to prevent this from happening again. All was well again in my life of interior design and remodeling - but what a fright Miss Whiskers gave me!"
