The Beauty of Bookcases

A Case for Books

Bookcases are like money; most of us never have enough . A bookcase can span a wall or be cleverly rigged to make use of leftover space. Some are pieces of fine cabinetry or furniture. In some of the nicest , books share space with beautiful objects of art. True book lovers will find a way to fit it all in.

These shelf-help tips offer suggestions to create attractive display space.

1. Grouping items as light or dark makes shelves more consistent.

2. Horizontal stacks of large books visually ground the shelf and are restful to the eye. The stack can be used as a base for accessories, adding height where it's needed.

3. Create a focal point for each shelf by packing away smaller items and replacing them with fewer, bigger accessories.

4. Less-attractive paperbacks can be confined to decorative baskets or on each shelf , leave a little empty space where the eye can rest.
